Why We’re Reinstating Proactive Rodent Baiting in Our Holiday Lodges

Because prevention is better than cure – and happier guests mean a healthier business.

We’re pleased to announce that we are bringing back a proactive rodent baiting system across all our lodges—something we used to do as standard when Steve was part of the team, and something we now recognise is more essential than ever.

When Steve worked with us, part of his routine maintenance included placing rodent bait boxes within the lodges, usually tucked discreetly under the kitchen kickboards—an area commonly favoured by rodents looking for warmth and food. Steve carried out regular checks and replenished bait where needed, and this preventative measure helped to keep our lodges pest-free and our guests happy.

Since Steve’s departure, this routine unfortunately fell by the wayside. Over time, we’ve noticed a rise in rodent sightings and reports—often brought to our attention by guests. This is an issue seen right across the report with Haulfryn lodges having the same issue.

As anyone working in hospitality knows, the sight of a mouse (or even just evidence of one) can lead to serious consequences: refund requests, relocations, and negative reviews that can damage our, and your properties reputation.

It became clear that reinstating a regular, proactive rodent management service was not just a sensible step, but a necessary one.

A New Approach, A Better Price

We’re now working with a trusted local technician to reintroduce monthly baiting visits—at a significantly reduced cost compared to before. Where Steve previously charged £30 per lodge, we’ve secured this service for just £20 per month/lodge, thanks to our ongoing commitment to providing value for our owners.

What’s included for £20 per visit?

  • Entry into each lodge to inspect all bait boxes

  • Checking and recording bait activity using a secure JotForm that goes directly to Amy via our group mailbox.

  • Replenishing bait as required

  • Supplying any additional bait boxes if needed (included in the price)

  • If bait has been taken, raising a job for Mark (Maintenance) via our Maintainx app to trace the entry point and block it to prevent further access

This monthly cost not only covers the technician’s time and expertise, but also includes all bait supplies and any additional equipment needed. In short, it’s a full-service pest prevention package for just £240 per year.

When a guest spots a rodent—or finds signs of one—it doesn’t just create a poor experience. It often results in compensation claims, relocation to another lodge, or lost future bookings. So, while £240 per year might sound like an annoying added cost, it’s actually a sound investment in avoiding much larger potential losses.
